benefits of headers
I'm getting ready to purchase some longtubes, I'm just curious do they make a noticeable difference on a stock car? Can you feel more power or anything? I just want to know if people were satisfied with the gains they got from headers? Thanks.

15-20rwhp untuned. What kind of exhaust are you going to run with the LT's?

I noticed a huge improvement in midrange and low end power after adding long tubes. Also note that I have an LS6 intake, which I installed prior to the headers. The combination of both gives you the best gains.

Definitely more power, especially if you have it tuned.

Mine's an 02 , so how much of a gain with & with out a tune using the stock system & cat back. I want to keep my stock cats as they are new.

well you cant keep your stock cats with longtubes, you need to get some random technology or magnaflow cats and have em welded in. the stockers wont fit. when i did mine i had a pacesetter y-pipe put in with a magnaflow muffler. i changed from a regular y-pipe and a flowmaster 80 series with a cutout. i had a huge improvement in top end. ran that setup for almost a year then got a vinci tuner to help out. what sucks is when i got the tuner, i just moved up here to BFE 7200 feet up and could not feel the difference

My headers made a huge difference. Before the headers I couldn't spin the tires from a punch in first. Now they light up pretty good. The sound with the cutout open is awesome as well.

i could spin punching in 1st ~ 20-25mph before, but now i can do it w/o even going wot. sideways on the 1-2 shift as well with 275 pirellis all around. however, i felt like i lost power below 2000 rpms, and subsequently i dont hit 6th till 55-60 with my "normal" driving. any lower and i get little "hiccups"

I just installed long tube headers and off road Y-pipe on an otherwise stock 02 SS. Here is what I have found.
Logging my LTFT's they haven't changed much,,,only showing +1 in most places so it didn't lean out the motor as much as I had anticipated. I only had 0 and -1/-2 in most all places. With that said I haven't bothered to tune the car,,,,,I may fatten the fuel curve only slightly sometime in the future.
So I left the car alone and went to the track to see how much it picked up. With DA very close to the last stock baseline run,,,,and cutting exactly the same 60 foot times,,,,,the car picked up a tenth and a little over 1 mph quarter mile. Not huge improvements but it is noticeable.
What I noticed most of all is the gas mileage difference now. As I would get 19 mpg around town very consistently,,,,it now gets 21 mpg on a regular basis.
Also changed the sound of the car slightly,,,,just a little louder,,,not because I removed the cats,,,as they were already gutted. Hope that helps.

re:
I felt a difference after my headers and saw a slight increase in MPG. The great thing about longtubes are that you well see bigger improvements the more you mod your engine.

It's the first big bolt on everyone needs to get. They help the car in every way and make good power. Definitely good with a cam. It will get very loud with an aftermarket exhaust and no cats

Change your stock cat back as it will also steal a few hp. (If funds allow) I got the hooker lt's and y pipe with electric cutout to go along with my h/c. I love it!!
