    Air Filter

Iv'e heard that K&N isn't recomended because of the oil in it or somethin? It causes problems. Im gettin the SLP lid but should I just stay with a standard paper filter?

Over oiling will cause problems - mine gets dirty fast so I run one, no problems in 5+ years. Paper is fine, just have to toss it when it gets dirty.

Dont over oil and you'll be fine. Ive never had a problem but to each his own. If you dont want K&N I would still get a washable filter.

I like k&n, I just figure on a dirt road you'd have to clean it ALOT which would in turn lead to a lot of oil in the MAF since it'd be freshened up a lot

the problem with using an oil type filter is when people over oil them. the excess oil gets sucked into the motor. when this happens, it coats the MAF wires. then, you get improper airflow readings, which can lead to hesistations, misses, for autos shift problems, etc.

GM put a bulletin out that if the customer has running issues and there is an oil type air filter in the car, to refuse work on the car.

Paper is easier to deal with(change less often and no oiling), but it is more restrictive.......

I use paper filters because the real world hp gain of a K&N vs. paper is almost non-existant. The K&N's can throw oil onto your MAF and throw off the calibration, and they have been shown(oil analysis) to let more dirt into your engine. IMHO, the benefit doesn't outweigh the potential side effects. The paper filters are less than $5 and are run on some of the fastest cars.
