Black- 2002 Camaro SS SLP
After LT and ORY install question
Got my headers on last night with a ory. Question is, has anyone gotten bad vibrations at idle? If im at a red light, "in drive" on the break, it vibrates like a mutha. The driver side y pipe is touching the floor board, so i think i can get some of that rubber stuff and put between so it might stop. That all i can think of that would be causing it. Any suggestions>?
Thanks

they sell a "y-pipe bump stop" that could do the trick, i paid 50 bucks for mine, its worth a shot

i would also like to no how the bump stop is, i have less then 1/4 in between car and y pipe, do i need one? i have vibrations like crazy, but dont really feel it under my feet. my cat back is hitting in like 3 places. two places just off the y pipe and then over the axle. drives me nuts

Its not so much that you can feel it but im sure you can hear it, normaly the Y pipe hits right under the driverside floor pan. The stock pipe had a flat spot to prevent this but aftermarket pipes dont have enough clearence. The bump stop is worth a shot but I recommend cutting out about 12" of the pipe where its hitting and weld in a new pipe that has a slight bend in it.
Its your call though...
Heres a link to the bump stop.
Its about 3/4 way down the page...

Yes some y pipes are flattened to prevent the rattle. If you remember what the stock Y looks like it looks like it got run over its that flat. Your exhaust guy tucked it too close to the floor. the drivers y needs approx 3/4 + of an inch to not rattle. I had this same issue and went back to my exhaust guy many times. he repeatedly heated the top of the pipe and smashed it flatter. it still rattled a bit. I bought an exhaust hangar that helps stop the rattle from hawks thirdgen parts or something... let me find the link.
here it is:

Definitely helped alot I only now get a rattle at wot above 5000 rpm in first if the road isnt smooth. otherwise no rattle

I have the opposite problem. My y is already on the floor, so it doesn't bang, its constantly vibrates. And my header is doing it too. What is the thing called where i can mallet a piece of rubber between the spots so it wont vibrate.

I think he means hanging to the floor as in its raised so high its touching the floorpan.
If its that high I know your problem. The guy who put the system on is an idiot. Get the exhaust cut and welded with sufficient clearance.

Just fyi some headers rub the k-memeber on the driver side you may need to grind a bit.

The pain problem is that the S.S. headers are different brand then the Y pipe. Beleave me, me and 2 buddies did the best we could to get the y and cat back to get on with no leaks. The driver side is touching the floor, and the passenger isn't. Like i was saying, whats the rubber block piece called so i can mallet a piece between the y and the floor.
