well the lsx and the 454 can have the same displacement...the lsx block itself doesnt make horsepower ..as it is only the block...so
a 454 lsx block will and should make much more power then the 454...technology is a great thing..more specifically the head design and block oiling and venting...
offically the ls6 454 was rated at 450..but i have heard from old gearheads that it actually pumps out close to 550.....
to give you a comparison the ls7 that is in the z06 makes 520ish.
since no car has came stock with a lsx 454..its hard to make horsepower estimates since a lot of aftermarket parts will need to be used ..but look for conservatively 600+ horses ..and i mean conservatively

ls alluminum blocks can handle around the area of 1000rwhp ...the internals are a issue. the crank alone was designed to handle 1000fwhp ..the rods and pistons are another story (ls1 we are talking about)

The ls1 engine can handle 700hp reliably, but has been taken to the 1k+ range. The lsx is rated much higher than 1200hp, it has been tested past 2000hp.

Tall-deck big-block Chevys can be taken over 700 cubic inches and can make over 3000HP. While the LSX isn't quite there yet, I've seen a couple shops/racers get around 1800HP...
