    LS1 ticking sound stopped

0w-30 Mobil one is the answer. The ticking was driving me crazy. It only lasted about 5-10 seconds on a cold start, but very annoying. I assume it was the lifters. Anyway it stopped. I would try this if I had this problem. Many posts about this.

I hate the sound of valve lifters ticking. I switched to a high flow oil filter (Fram) and changed to 0w - 40 Mobil One. The startup valve noise is gone. I think the problem is the oil filters not the oil. Which brand did you install on your car.

I use Amsoil 5w-30 and a Wix filter, no ticking.

    Post Cold flow...

Cold flow properties of the motor oil at start-up are a big factor for how quickly the engine gets lubricated. 0W motor oils are the best for cold starts, even when the oil temp is 100 degrees F.

Are you sure your oil level wasn't just low?
I've never had that issue. I run 0W-30 in the Winter and 10W-30 during the Summer...mobil-1 of course

    oil level

The ticking sound would never stop. The oil level was perfect. I timed the sound each morning, it lasted about 3 to 5 seconds when idling.

Would the oil filter matter in a case like this? Just curious.

Are you asking if a better flowing oil filter provides quicker/better cold engine start-up protection?

The engineers seem to think so. I’d be curious if the SAE has done a study on this topic?

Fram is the worst oil filter on the market....they are pieces of shit, I highly suggest changing it now.....go with a stock gm, mobil, or amsoil filter....amsoil in my opinion is the best its what i use
