Engine Squeak
I have an awful engine squeak. My 99 vette is currently at the chevy dealership and has been there for about the past month. They have replaced 2 belts the idler pulley and the main crank pulley and i still have the squeak. They ordered a gator belt and it should be in soon. Should that fix my problem? Has anyone had similar problems? What can be done to correct it? I really dont think the my dealership knows what they hell they are doing. Just wasting parts/money. When the car is idle the squeak is not noticable but as soon as you rev the engine it gets louder and stays that way. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brad

My 99 did the same exact thing. It didn't skweel til you revved it up. I think a gator belt should do the trick.

Have you had your clutch replaced recently?
some aftermarket clutches will squeal, worn out clutches will also squeal

My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
1: i feel bad its at the stealership, unless its under warrenty, have fun with that bill.
2: have you had any large amounts of liquid spill on your pulleys? like coolant or even rain? I had a coolant explosion in my engine and my pulleys squeeled really bad, i removed the a/c belt and was able to locate the problem: all of teh a/c pulleys needed replaced [idler, tensioner and a/c clutch pulley] Good luck.

Hey, I had the same squeek on my 99 coupe ,to the point that I sold it..I did however keep in touch with the new owner .. The problem was the Harmonic Balancer, who would have thought that. He had it replaced and problem solved. Your description of the problem was exactly what I had going on.. Its the searching and guessing that kills ya.Best of luck hope this helps.. Now I have the 2001 Sure love these cars,,,

I had a similar problem with my 97, I simply removed the AC belt and it went away. You can try that and see if it narrows it down. Good luck!

Light Metallic Pewter- 2000 Corvette Coupe
An old belt will also sometimes put a glaze on the pulleys.....An old trick is to smear some toothpaste on the belts(don't go wacko on the amount! ) . It has just enough abrasive to help clean the pulleys. OR remove the belts seperately and see if one or the other belt being off makes a difference.
