    Don't mind doing this once................
I'm with you man, once is enough! The service manual had me scratching my head in a few spots. I have to also say thanks to guys who chimed in and corrected any discrepancies I had made in posting this. Glad you will find it useful.

This is a great write-up. Good documentation on each step of the process and great pics... with labels. Is the underhood gauge liquid filled, or is that a protective overlay?

Thanks! The gauge is liquid filled. The guy that designed the kit has this monster C6 that he uses to dust off crotch rockets. The looks on their faces as he passes them is priceless. When he does a engine modification, he only uses the best stuff available. Must be nice to have his wallet!

That's the kicker in this. Those sensors go bad 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 weeks, 5 months or even 5 semesters after you fix them. There is no rhyme or reason to it. They are flaky as hell. The one I replaced in this write-up went bad less than a month later.

Thank God I did the relocate. Now it's a 10 minute fix.

Damn! Nice write up. I was only searching google to get tips on installing fuel rail covers on a camaro. The pictures in this thread helped me a lot, especially on the drivers side with the wire routing.

I just had to join and tell the OP great job!

    Fantastic write Up

Awesome job on the write up and great job on the install etc...
You understated your abilities by a mile.
I would say you are a great mechanic and then some.
I however , am just a bolt turner. Not on your level at all.
I'm glad you explained how to disconnect all those clips, I would have ripped them to pieces...My wifes 99 is out right now...
Thank Again for all your effort on this great write up
    You are the man !

Thanks for the kudos! lol! Those clips gave me hell too. That's why I explained how to disconnect them. I feel for my fellow shade tree mechanics. I know the pain!

Threads like these where so many individuals experience the same issue are never old. There a few failures with the C5 that every owner will eventually experience. This is just one of them.

    Thanks for the response!

Top write up with great clear pics. Just one suggestion, to relieve fuel pressure, pull the fuel relay or fuse (depending on your car), try to start it and the fuel pressure drops to zero.

Good suggestions. I've always waited until the next day before doing this repair and thus, the pressure has always been low.

I'm just about to tackle this job - what did you use to clean up the engine before re-installing the manifold?

Simple Green Max and a scrubby dish washing sponge. Works excellent on removing old head gaskets too. I scrubbed the entire engine clean last week.

Has anyone used the relocation kit described above for their Camaro's or TAs? I have a 99 Z28 and would love to do the relocation. I compared the size of the Corvette and Camaro sending unit and the Camaro sending unit is much longer. I guess what I want to really know is the kit capable of housing the Camaro sending unit or will the Vette sending unit work in its place.

Nice post Junkman! Final gauge layout looks really good in the fuel rail cover.

Thanks man. That was the look that I was going for. I wanted it to look either stock or professionally added, not like a shade tree mechanic installed it! lol!

Camaroconway, I have just installed this version on my fbody. I had to send the unit back for them to lengthen the hose (connector to connector it came at 10" and I had it replaced with one 20" in length) so I could mount the gauge assembly on the second coil pack from the rear. This change was due to the engine sitting further back under the cowl than the vette. I have not started it up yet since I need to lengthen the OPS connector wire about an inch. I was not thrilled that I have a unit of many colors (blue and red fittings) and wished they were the same as Junkman's finish.

I do wish that our OPS was smaller like the vette's. I see that the fbody is a one wire connection as the vette sensor that originally came with the unit had 2 or 3 prongs (can't remember) so I hope I don't run in to a grounding issue since the OPS is no longer mounted directly to the engine block.

Good thing someone posted in this thread. I see that I need to go back and reinsert all the pictures again.

Edit: Well, I see that I can't edit my thread! Maybe a moderator can allow me the ability to edit it?
