C5 Z06..........its not a base model and from most of what I have seen is still quicker around a race track than the stock LS2 base model. Plus it is rare and should hold its value well.

Either way its a nice choise to get to make......lol

    My take on each:

    C5Z

    Cheaper
    Looks better
    Looks better slammed with 19/20s

    C6

    Targa roof
    Better Interior
    Still looks sick with 19/20s
Can put c6z Body panels on
    Bigger motor. free hp

If it were me, c5z all the way. lowered on 19/20 HREs and I would use the extra motor to build a huge 400ci + stroker.

    Extra money?

Its not a brick....lol The front is the same as the coupe and convertible. The decklid and rear window is about all that is different.

01ws6475hp--160 speed ? we do better than that [165/170] down front straight, at pocono race track, local corvette club in c6/ zo6 pure stock, 4th gear/ not a c5 model !! we can only afford to do this ,with other sports cars clubs, sharing expenses !! rkvette

With no more power and more weight, the top speed from the factory for a 2005 Corvette Z51 6-speed is 10 mph faster than a 2004 Z06. That is likely due to the aero differences, considering that both cars have the same rear gearing. They didn't change the 5th gear ratio for 2005 did they?

BTW, I've always loved the C5 Z06's looks (minus the headlights; first mod would be C5R lamps) but for my own personal Corvette, I've been leaning more and more towards purchasing a used C6 instead of a C5 Z06. If I can swing the extra $100+/month I will go for the C6 Z06, but more than likely I will be purchasing an LS2 C6 before this time next year.

I would probably pick the C6... it just plain looks and rides better. I know this is another animal, but I got a chance to drive a 6-speed 2009 model. It was pretty sweet. It had the heads up display, touch screen radio. Yeah it was some fun to take down a back road. That thing would move from 40-100 pretty quick.

The only downside is you find yourself in the same boat with all the other base corvette owners. you have the "mustang GT" of the corvette world. they're very common plain and simple.
