There is no doubt that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was one of the hottest vehicles to debut this week at the Detroit Auto Show, but Autoblog West Coast Editor Michael Harley takes it one step further by calling it the "highest-performing vehicle the North American automakers have ever made." To get a closer look at the 2015 Z06, we grabbed Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter, who gave us more insight about the car and what could possibly make it the ultimate Corvette.

Aside from the obvious styling changes necessary for optimizing aerodynamics and air flow to the engine and brakes, Juechter is quick to point out some of the unique elements of the Z06. This includes the fact that it's the only car with more than 600 horsepower ("at least" 625 to be exact) to offer two transmission options - a seven-speed manual and an eight-speed auto specifically designed for the 2015 Z06 - and that it's the first car ever to pair a supercharged engine with cylinder deactivation.

Juechter does add that the Z06 is still in the initial stages of development, so it will likely be some time before we get any additional specs, pricing or performance figures about the newest member of the C7 family. Until then, scroll down to see what Harley and Juechter have to say about the high-performance coupe.Continue reading A closer look at the 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06
