    Whats up ?

Guys every C5 I have driven pings. I even had one place put in 4 gals of premium {it was low on fuel} It still pings. Is there some issue with this? Thats 3 C5s that have done this. I drove 3 C6s they did not ping. Any input??

Mine does not ping, there is slightly more lifter noise than usual but thats because its a Z06

I know the early LSX engines had piston slap issues at warm up, does anyone know if this also happened in the corvettes?

You are supposed to be running premium. The manual says you do not have too but if your pinging thats probably the issue. If you mixed premium with non-premium the gas may not have dilluted enough.

its pinging because you've been using shitty gas in it. LS motors need premium at the very least, buy some octane booster at autozone and mix it with a full tank of premium, see if that helps

Ok these are cars that I am test driving, considering to purchase them. I have my eye on a 2004 C5 with 59000 miles on it. Has what I want except the 3.15 gears it has the 2.73. The car is bone stock except it was pinging when I test drove it. I only went 3/4 throttle. She was quick !! Looks like new in and out. Its a 2004. It pulls about like my Formula. Do these vettes really go way over One Hundred thousand miles if you take care of them ?

dont let a drop of fuel below premium level ever touch the inside of that gas tank again, you dont have to take my advice about adding octane booster, but at $3 for a bottle, it couldnt hurt for a one time thing to see if works. good luck

Too bad I havn't been on here for a while. I'm selling my 2002 C5 6spd Z51 coupe, factory 3.42 gears, with 38000 miles. But I'm pretty sure it is sold though.

I can tell you that mine doesn't ping and it pulls until you run out of road. You may be hearing the slave bearing. They are constantly turning in the C5s, and are known to rattle a little. GM actually had a bulletin on them.

Go to a dealership and get the following service information:
    DOCUMENT ID# 1858665
Its five pages long and shows a normal noise problem identified as "Gear Rattle" in 6 speed transmitions. It specifically mentions Corvettes.
    Hope this helps.

By the way, after I sell the C5, I'm going for a mid to late 90s F-body. The Corvette is just too nice to beat on.

Thanks Justin. I just returned all the stock parts back on it to sell. I only had boltons, Kooks/Corsa/Vararam/Predator tune, etc.. Trouble is, car is so originally clean, I can't enjoy it like some of the other street cars I used to wrench on. Thats why I figured an older F-body.

If you have the money I think that is the right move, I'd love to have a C6

Thanks. Where were you on the job? I think waiting for a C6 might be a good idea too. They are dropping a lot with their prices. Personally, although the C6clearly outperforms the base C5, I think the C5s are a much better looking car, and look more like a Corvette should. Since the C6s did away with the hidaway headlights, and Europeanized their exterior/interiors, they just don't do it for me. You should check over on the Corvette Forum though, theres usually a few nice ones for sale there. Mike
