Bad pulley on 98 Corvette
My father has a 1998 C5 Corvette with 87k miles on it. He was complaining about a squeaking noise coming from the pulley. He takes it to the dealer and they fix it but charged him over a 1k to fix it. Did the dealer charge him too much?

I would have to say YES. I wanna know what they changed that made the bill that much. I had squeak on my LS1 and it was easy fix just get rid of the unless GM tensioner pulley and replace with a manual adj. model from comp cam. Even if it was a bad water pump or alternator 1k still seen too much to replace either of those. Can't think if anything else that would squeak off the top of my head. What did the bull say the actually fixed?

I am betting it was a tensioner pulley which can be purchased for probably $30 tops.....they also probably changed the belt but even with 2 hours labor (being generous) it shouldnt have been more than a couple $300. He got took. With stuff like that I would ask for who worked on it, when they started, when they stopped and why it took so long. Also, ask for the old parts back.

I know my tensioner went at 75k that's why I switched to a manual that spring one is a headache. Like he said I would want the old parts and I wanna.know what the work order said they replaced.

All I know is that my father took the car to the chevy dealer. I think he got took myself unfortunately. I'll find out info on what's on the bill and how long it took them to fix it. Thanks for the quick replies too.

I know dealers usually rob you but that seems extremely high for a squeaking noise. Keep us posted when you get the details.
