    99 FRC Vette or 01 Z06?

I want your opinions on my next project LSX vehicle. The 99 FRC is about the same as the Z06. I want a Speedway White Z06 with red leather (my dream car). But, the 99 FRC's can be bought at a better deal, generally. I have a set of PRC stage 2 LS6 heads sitting around that I want to put on my next LSX.

One thing to consider is collectability. The 01 Z06's are bound to be collector items, and will be the long term best investment. Plus, they have the brakes (among other diff's) and the "Z06" aura. Problem is, there aren't many, and 99 FRC's are all over the place for sale.

I plan to put those heads on either one, along with a fat cam. Which one would you guys choose? (considering I will be putting these heads to good use)

They will both be receiving full bolt-ons, and a head/cam package. (gonna keep it N/A)

Wait for the right Z06 to come along if that's your dream.

C5 Z06 prices have dropped alot since the introduction of the new C6 Z06 this year. There are many 2001 Z06's out there being traded in or sold by owners at attractive prices.

I would go with the FRC b/c they can be bought for approx 5-6 K less than the comparable 01 Zo6. Once you start doing major modifications, the desirability of the Z06 will be less and less. I would take the least expensive route to achieve the performance car you desire.

I may be a bit biased, but I had this same decision to make myself. If you plan to mod, don't bother spending the extra money on the Z. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

Are they about the same weight, the FRC and the Z06's? I read somewhere that the Z06 utilizes lightweight glass in the front and back. Any truth to that?

They are real close in weight, my FRC is extremely light since I utilize the magnesium wheels along with the Z06's titanium exhaust. You are correct about the windshield. The Z06 has a thinner windshield which is about 3 lbs. lighter. The rear glass are the same I believe.

Whoa, 6 lbs. Now I am tempted to get an FRC and save the rest in mods. Did those FRC's only come with black interiors? Also, what year models are the FRC Vette's available?

Yes, black was the only option. FRC Corvettes were produced in 1999 and 2000.

The only white Z06 I could find for sale with the red interior is in damn Arizona or some crap. And it isn't CarMax, so I can't have it shipped for cheap. I found a red one close by with only 6500 miles for 30K! Talk about someone eating the depreciation.

I thought about it, and I would rather have the Red 01 Z06 with 6.5K for 30 grand, than have a white FRC with 61K for 21.5 grand.

    Z06 me gotdammit!

You need to write a book on Vette facts. You know your stuff! Thanks for the good info.

I asked about the black leather b/c every FRC I had seen so far had a black interior.

FRC's are alot rarer than Z06's (only like 10k FRC's ever produced... i want to say like 6500 in 99 and 3500 in 00... though i might be off on this).... down the road i think the FRC will be just as collectible... and get a 2000 not a 99...

and someone may have corrected you on this, but the only difference in braking is the color of the calipers... Honestly the tranny is the only thing on the z06 that is really worth much once you get into modding it youf gonna replace most of what makes it a Z06...
