WS6 tranny area clunk during launch?

Just picked up a 2000 TA WS6 wednesday. She's got some mods but has only 54k miles on her and cleaned up like new. One thing I noticed when you get in it there is a clunk in the tranny tunnel area, almost like it's coming from under the drivers side seat. I have not had her on a lift yet so see whats up. I'm thinking it's the tranny mount or torque arm? Maybe the exhaust rubbing? She does have headers and a Magnaflow catback? Any common issues come to mind? BTW the shifter doe not move.

Thinking about how old the car is even at 54k miles, the car is still almost 13 years old. I would be willing to bet money that transmission mount comes out looking pretty worn out as well as your motor mounts and torque arm mount. It could certainly be the ypipe hitting but that's a common problem with bad motor mounts. I suggest looking over everything and possible replacing those mounts just for good measure.

Second this. Most of the time, the y pipe can be tweaked to stay clear of the floor pan when the engine torques to the driver's side.

Thanks guys, that's kinda reassuring as those are easy fixes. I'm thinking Energy Suspension motor and tranny mounts are on the short list unless you guys have a preffered brand?

From my personal experience I would recommend prothane mounts. Energy suspensions tends to give a harsher ride IMO. Really depends on your idea of harsh though.

Keep us posted. Also, while you're checking everything, inspect your u-joints. Ya never know.

Got the front of the car up today to change the oil, looks like it is the Y pipes they are close. From what inspection I could do, everything looks okay. Think I'll do the mounts anyways.

Sounds like you figured it out. The mounts are a good idea, just remember, you are going to get more vibration with prothane mounts. The factory rubber mounts are soft, and transfer less vibration.

Had to knock a small relief in the floor above my driver side header collector cause it was hitting on hard acceleration.

Did you replace your motor mounts as well with the install?

Had a shop do the rear main and headers. My car has low miles so the motor mounts got reused. In hindsight, I should have had them replaced.
