Winter Storage
So, does anyone do something special for winter storage? It will be worked on over the winter, however the winters in Northern Michigan can tend to get a little nippy. I am planning on putting the stock tires and wheels back on so I don't have flat spots on my aftermarket ones. Anything special I should be doing?

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
^^
Jack up the car, remove the wheels and battery, put battery on trickle charger, put fuel stabilizer in fuel tank.

After putting Stabil in the tank, start the engine and allow it to circulate through the entire fuel system. If you start the car during the winter - be sure to bring it up to full temp and let it run a bit to burn off any moisture in the engine and exhaust before shutting it back down. If you disconnect the battery, remember that your car will run like crap on initial startup.

Mine sits on the garage floor. Tires are the original OEM tires from 2002. No issues. I know, I need to get new ones just from age alone here soon.
I've also never used any gas stabil. I know some people like it though.
I simply start it every month and let it run for 20 minutes or so.
Been doing this since 02 and never had an issue.Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

I can "store" it for you here....even take it around the block every once in a while
I promise there is no salted roads to worry about...
BTW, I used to live in Belleville, just 30 miles west of Detroit....Last edited by badassta; 10-04-2012 at 06:59 PM.

Silver & Blue- 02 Camaro SS, 04 GTO
I take the tire pressure down to 20 psi. I was told that this helps prevent flat spots. I run Stabil through the system for 1/2 hr. before I park it. I always have a full tank. I block up the air intake (mice) and exhaust with foam so it still breathes and I use a battery tender. Works great for me.
My ride is a 2002 Camaro SS SLP #3296 with 30k, LTH, 3" Y, CME, Frost tune, K&N, ported TB, Blackwing lid, Bellows, MSD, Denso Iridium, and 85mm MAF, Bilsteins, Eibach springs, SLP strut brace, Adj. Panhard, TA Girdle, UMI, Pro 5.0, Nitto NT555
My wife has a 2004 GTO with the rare SAP, 18" wheels, K&N Cold Air System, MSD, Ported TB, Frost tune, Denso Iridium, Flowmaster cat-back, 3200 Yank, 75k

I kept my 01 Camaro over winter in it's own 24x10 climate controlled building.
I put new tires on it every year. AutoX tires I had only last 3 months so that year I got new tires twice.
Did'nt bother with jack stands, just kept the tires aired up.
A car sitting on it's rubber for 3-4 months is'nt going to flat spot any off the shelf tire.
Sitting a whole year is a differnt story though.

My z34 even has a building just for it's drive train..lol

Hey, if you want to come and get it and drive it the months that I can't I'm all for it. If you wouldn't ming replacing the rear axles and bearings while you have it that would be awesome too! I'm torn now between what should stay in the garage and if the T/A should go in storage... I finally have a truck that'll fit in the garage. Even with remote start, there's nothing nice about trenching through the snow in dress shoes and having cold feet all day. This should be fun to play around in the snow with!

Yeah i hear you on lovin your T/A like me and my SS i ove it BUT its cool to drive something different like an automatic for me is like a luxury Its a little less stressful during stop and go traffic...and driving our 4x4 has its benefits too..like being able to see the road far far ahead of you and for mud and snow.....with our cars you see alot of hood and cowl...which is damn cool!
