Will removing my AIR system cause any damage?

I have a 2000 Z28 and was wondering if I removed my AIR pump and hoses; would it do any damage and/or lead to premature cat failure and/or throw any codes? I don't plan on doing any LT's or removing the cats anytime soon.

Don't know for sure about premature cat failure but it will throw a SES unless they're turned off - extended 120K warranty on the cats will be out the window too. Still have mine, keeping it until I do LTs.

If you pull it off, it will throw a code, but the code can be turned off easily enough. Lots of people remove their AIR system.

It shouldn't do any mechanical damage to the car, it will just set the SES light because the A.I.R. system won't be functioning.

The AIR system is designed to help light off the cats quicker when the engine is first started. So in the first few minutes of a cold startup, the AIR will pump fresh oxygen into the exhaust stream to help the cats start functioning more quickly and reduce emmissions.

Removing the system really provided no benefit short of reducing the cluttered mess in the engine bay.

Yes it will probably throw a code. No it won't cause EARLY failure. But if you have other issues such as a rich condition that is letting raw fuel get to the cats without the air pump helping cool them down then yes it will aid in earlier failure.

Mine has been just fine. Had it turned off before I got LTs and had no problems. It reduces clutter some, maybe drops a lb? I think the main thing that is worth doing is plugging up the hole in the airbox that the AIR tube would be stealing from, don't know how much that even effects performance though.

An electrically activated pump - follow the hose down to below the drivers side headlight area.

Consider it a lesson learned. No matter how, an education will cost ya.

No its not. Considering how bad some of the things GM designed have worked.

During my LS6 intake yesterday, we removed the AIR system too. However, I left a rubber hose coming out of that hole and it ends around the aread that is parallel to the brake resevoir. I plugged the hose with an old lug nut key.

Is everyone else ripping all that shit out? Even whats under the driver side headlight?

The AIR pump is the unit under the driver's side headlight
