I have a computer monitoring readout device on my dash that computes gas mileage based on fuel used and miles driven. It shows this mileage alot of different ways, instant and averages. If I reset it after accelerating to highway speed I can average over 30 mpg easily. It's the waiting at the lights and accelerating up to speed that kill the averages. I find it hard to believe that guy got over 40 average on that road trip in that Corvette. Again the uphills and stops for fuel or lunch would bring down the average, and I can't get averages of 40+ even on the highway in 6th gear at 60 mph. If his entire trip was with tornado winds behind him and downhill then ok.
Anyway write down your mileage and actual gas gallons at the pump over a longer period time and you will get a good mileage average. 34 is possible on the highway with your foot out of it. But any stoplights and idling time will kill that mileage alot.

Its fourth grade math man, just think about how you find averages.
