    600hp sube power sancar
    68 panel,

    whats the difference

OK here is my situation i have a 68 Chevy panel that I'm interested in putting a ls motor in. I'm not sure what motor i want to put in or really what is the difference in the motors between the ls1 ls2 ls6 and ls7. i am also wondering what is the differences in the years they were produced. i have been told that i do want a m.y. 2000 or newer due to the head size. i am not looking to put out a lot of horse power right around 300 is fine for the application. i am also looking to use a factory CPU, wire harness and trans. whats the major difference between 4.7l 5.3l and 5.7. other that the obvious displacement i have seen 4.7l with 85k on e bay for $400 i could throw a set of ring a hone and a valve job at this motor and be in it less than 1k. somebody please educate me.

If we're talking complete motors here that you never plan on modding I would probably look for an LS6 first then an LS1 just due to price. The LS6 is going to make more HP but be more expensive than the LS1. If you plan on doing any mods down the road such as heads then the LS1 becomes top runner just due to price and once you start modding it it'll run right along with the LS6 because they're the same displacement. I would look for a 99+ LS1 due to casting changes that made for better oiling. The LS2 is more cubic inches so it's gonna make more HP and have more potential for HP but it's also gonna be more expensive. The LS6 was rated at 405 and the LS2 at 400 from the factory but the LS2 has more potential once you start modding.

well put Orion... ... and as far as the LS3 and LS7 are concerned they'll run you top dollar and are in excess of 400hp without mods... frankly there too you would be better off with a cheaper ls1, mod it and match those numbers for half the price.
