Question What is this whining sound?

Today my car started making this whining sound when I turn the steering wheel. It's shifting fine (auto) and everything else seems to be alright. The steering wheel was a little hard to turn at the time. Any ideas what this sound could be?

air in the power steering fluid. mine does it if i jerk the wheel around or take turns hard. usualy you just change the fluid and it will go away.

Yeah I agree with V8MUSCLE it is your power steering pump you can try changing the fluid it could have air or moisture in it and both compress a lot more than power steering fluid so your pump dose not work properly, however if that dose not fix it you will have to change the power steering pump luckily its not really too hard to change but the new pump dose not come with a pulley so you have to remove it and put it on the new pump hopefully it all works out for you.

Thanks for the heads up, could it still be the power steering pump if it makes that sound while driving? I mean,I could still hear it a little when in drive. Any idea how much a new pump would be? Thanks again!

Yeah, it's worse when wheels are turned hard but I can still hear it driving to.

my power steering is "heavier" in the camaro than most other cars I drive.

is it just the nature of the massive front tires?

it def has power steering, just a little harder to turn than sayyy my buick century

My 4x4 tahoe is real soft and crisp, but yes the f-body is "heavier" if you will.

just to clear the obvious, did you check the fluid level first? it still could be something worse but low fluid will make it do exactly the same thing.

    Thumbs up

Hear is a link to a pump i found from Advance Auto Parts its $54.99 plus $30.00 for the core charge ---->http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...ring%20pump___ and if your pump is doing that while you are driving straight then you should change it as quickly as possible. Good Luck!
