I own a Vette and a SS. If you like great handling then get the Vette. There is a vast difference when is comes to roads that aren't smooth. That is where the Vette's IRS shines. If you look at the suspension components/design between the two, you will see why the fbody is not a great handling car. The Vette is easier to drive fast and hard. It should be for $20k more.

But then why have both cars? Why not two Vettes if you need two cars?If you could only have one -which one would you choose? That's the question. If Vette owners are horses asses-why vote for the Vette-I don't want to be associated with them then-IMHO.

In my case, the Camaro is the daily driver which has 4 seats so the family can ride along. The Camaro is stock and will stay that way because the Vette is the car I mod and race. The Camaro is my slow, practical car.

My point was that the Vette is too impractical to be the only car for most people. The thread is about choosing only one vs. the other.

If you were to race the car, I'd go with the SS. Plus at 19 you're probably going to want your friends (girls) riding with you. Not easy to do in a 2 seater.

Question: Where do you work to afford a Vette at 19?

Tranny is actually not so awesome. Camaros and T/A's are pretty much just a cheaper Corvette, and with being cheaper, you get lower build quality. I don't think he's saying that there is anything wrong with them, just that they are a cheaper car.

Also, 9sec302 is right about girls. As a recent high school graduate myself, and a current college student, I can tell you that most 'vette guys are looked at as rich pricks, while a lot of girls think that camaros and t/a's are badass. I also live in the south though...

Whatever you get, please just take car of the car and yourself, and don't drive like an idiot.

I've never heard of the tranny as being a weak link before. They have a good reputation and it's hard to beat 6 speeds(if you are referring to the stick,is there any other type?).They're in the Viper for chrissake.

Where'd hear that? His last post was back in October 9.Yes this thread has turned into a debate between Corvette and Camaro guys, kinda like Mustang owners debating Cobra vs.GT stuff. It's all in good fun,and that kid sounded like he had more money than know-how so the Mustang will suit him just fine.

I just made up the STANG thing. I was just thinking after letting all of you hash it out he wasn't going to buy either car anyway.

I'm glad I can figure out for myself what to drive with out seeking a majority approval first.
If it doesn't require Premium fuel ,You got the wrong Model.

They aren't terrible, it's just they could be better. I think the Viper's tranny is a beefed up T-56 though, isn't it?

Yeah-this thread became all about the argument and not about the original question-lol. We haven't heard back from the guy since-he probably thinks we are all loony-haha. I'm no tranny expert-I believe the Viper version has beefed up shifter forks or something, otherwise the same. But it's always the rear axle that people complain about not the tranny.

True, but at least it didn't turn into an all out flame fest. And about the tranny: I was just saying it is one of the few things on the car that is less than perfect.

If your going off to college I wouldnt want a nice car to take and get messed up. Get the SS and leave at home and with the left over money you saved from the cost of the vette buy a nice beater.

well leaving your car in a univ of south carolina parking lot was almost like parking it in the middle of a golf course.

    Corvette holds price better

Until Camaros get to be real tough to find, go with the Corvette. I am sure you will be putting plenty of miles on the car over the next few years. The Camaro might fetch $8000 or $9000 with 70,000+ miles on it at that time yet the Corvette will get you much more in return. Just keep it nice and detailed, don't abuse it, and you will get a good buyer when the time comes.

If you don't really need to haul more than one passenger most of the time... than the Vette would be my choice by far.
