Royal Purple has a tendency to cause oil leaks especially on vehicles with over 50,000 miles on em . Highly over publicized & over rated . Its the Slick Fifty of the new millenium . Snake oil with purple cake coloring . Waay over priced & over hyped . Just cause its on Horsepower TV don't mean shit . Its like the infamous Tornado device that advertizes 50 more HP & 10 extra MPG . And Lucas oil treatment is is just as bad due to the foaming action it causes .

If you want to know how your oil is doing, get an oil analysis. Science vs hype!

Like this, I used Penzoil Platinum 5w-30 on this OCI and it seemed to work great.

Used to use Mobil 1 but stopped. Got tired of paying $5+ for a quart of oil thats not even full synthetic. Switched over to regular Castrol GTX 10w30 a while back. Car has 130,000 miles on it and I burn less than a 1/4 quart at 3000 mile intervals.

So i decided to go with 10-30 and the problem seemed to subside. I just changed the oil last night, so well see how it works out in a few weeks. Does any1 here run 10-40? or is it a bit much? I run 10-30/40 in the summer and 5-30 in the winter.
    1. Mobile is a town in Alabama.
    2. 10-30 is marginally thicker at start up but at op temps is usually thinner than a 5-30 due the VI's.
    3. Why does the ambient air temp have to do with your choice of viscosities? If it is 114f outside your engine is at 212f within a few minutes....if it is -40 outside your engine is at 212f in a few minutes.
    4. Get a UOA and stop wondering.
    5. Royal Purple is overpriced piss water.

Kragens has Valvoline Synpower on a rebate special. $3.49 a qt., $2.50 a qt rebate. Final price $.99 a qt for a limit of a dozen qts. Not quite as good as PP, but better than RP and Mobil 1, for a lot less money. If you look on the UOA sticky you will see my results prove it.

If you have been burning up oil like that I GUARANTEE your rings and ring lands are caked up with oil carbon. First off I order a oil separator kit. You can get a pretty one or you can go to home depot and get a small one for a air compressor. That 3/8 line that loops from the lifter valley to the throttle body is sucking oil mist into the motor and burning it.

Then I would get a can of SeaFoam and suck it through that vacuum line into the motor. BEWARE it is going to smoke like NO tomorrow burring all that oil coating that you have sucked in. You will need to have someone hold the motor around 2000-2500 rpm so it doesn't stall. About half way through the bottle let it come back to idle and stick the hose back in the can. It should stall. If it doesn't before you finish the other half shut the car off and let it sit for about 5 min.
It is going to start hard just crank it until it starts....... Now it is really going to be smoking. Suck the other 1/4 or 1/3 thats left now begin to rev the motor cleaning it out.

Now go hit the freeway for at least 20 miles of abuse to free up all your ring packs.

After that is done get back home and drain that shitty oil out.

PLEASE replace with Amsoil or Penzoil Platinum. And on the filter I would order a Amsoil one or go to Napa and get a Napa"Gold" which is made by Wix. The K&N oil filters come in a close 3 in quality so they are also a great filter.

Mobil1 is not what it once was in the oil choices of today and I would say is no where near the top.

    Good Luck.
Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!
