If you install everything yourself, you can get sub-frame connectors, lower control arms, pan hard bar, and a torque arm for under 1K. Those are the essentials. Springs/shocks is up to you. I opted for Strano springs and Koni 4/4 shocks. Doesn't really help going in a straight line as much as it does cornering. I am a 6-speed so I'll let Jeff comment on the A4 transmission. My T56 was built by RPM Transmission though. Performabuilt has high ratings and they are a sponsor on this site.

I won't be doing the work myself, I'll be bringing it to my local speed shop. Did you opt for the red or black gloss?

Most of my components are black. Unless you plan on doing car shows, it really doesn't matter tbh. You can't see anything once it's tucked underneath the vehicle.

True, I was just curious. The red looks cool, but like you said, no one will see it. I will be doing the exact suspension that you have in your signature.

What kind of cover did you get on your rear end?

I have a Moser 9" and am not sure if the options are the same as a 12 bolt. As far as I know, there is no cover option for the 9". They do sell girdles for the pumpkin which you won't need. Make sure to get a drain plug whichever route you go.

15K budget? Buy my car to beat on and keep yours stock, lol!

I have 595 on the dyno slip...

DEFINITELY do the suspension and rear end first. If I get on it I can't keep the rear planted... AND, I busted the 10 bolt last night and had to trailer her home...

Check into UMI for your suspension needs. They are a site sponsor, make great products here in the USA, and offer great customer service.

Anything north of 400 h.p. is topping out a stock 4L60E's capabilities. There are a couple of weak links in the 4L60E, the sunshell being one of them. I upgraded ours to a Performabuilt Level II and am quite pleased with how it performs, especially with the 3,200 billet converter (even though I should have went 3,600).

This is our transmission being built: PerformaBuilt Level II - Pro Race (Build Pics)

Do you think I should upgrade my transmission? Or roll the dice with the stock 4L60?

When you up the power, both the stock rear and the stock auto transmission become the weak links in the chain.

Yeah good points. The different levels for the 4L60 I don't understand. Obviously the higher the level, the more power it can handle. Not sure which one to look at?

To summarize, heres what I'm planning on doing in one shot...

    Rear End/Driveshaft
    Suspension
    Forged bottom end
    Transmission upgrade
    D1 procharger Kit

And hopefully I can get some Heads. With the labor, I'm hoping to be under 25K. I decided to go all out, and exceed my 15K budget.

No wife, no kids, so I'm able to pull it off lol. As long as I don't lose my job, I'm planning on doing this next summer. I already got quoted on the D1 kit with a FMIC and bigger injectors, with an upgraded fuel system, and ATI Super Damper. That alone, with the labor, plus tax was $10,700.

I can put you in touch with a VERY competent builder that's in Fort Wayne if you're willing to drive out there. Let me know. He does phenomenal work. Not sure what his schedule is like now, but he works with Steve as well (Frost tuner from this site).

BTW - I'm just over the border in IN...not too far from you I don't think.

I believe you, I'm sure he's great. Fort Wayne is about 3 hours away from me. That's too far for me to drive. I live about 35 miles southwest of downtown Chicago.

The shop I plan on bringing it to, is a well known high performance shop in the western suburbs.

Very true, I don't want to risk that.

Thanks lol, but I've always wanted to beef up my car, and I finally have the cash to do it.

And I'm pretty sure I know which shop you're speaking of. This guy did my build. Left the car with him and my car is pretty much mint with very low miles. I could never do that at a shop...too many hands in the pot. If it's the same shop I'm thinking of they are a good place to go.

I guess the kits and installation are a bit more $$ than I thought. I had in mind no more than $7,500 for a FI setup.

It can be done for that. My cost was more due to the add-on/upgrades I opted to use; gauges, Aster tensioner, methanol, FMIC, etc.

I know what you mean, I'm super picky with my car. My car also is in mint condition. My paint has been waxed so many times, it looks brand new. Never driven in snow, and garage kept, never seen salt. My interior is perfect, and I've always leather conditioned my seats, so my black leather is flawless for an 01'.

The shop I'm referring to, did my headers, cam and torque converter. No complaints, they did a great job. I'm never comfortable knowing people are working on my car. So I know what you mean.

Let me ask you, I have a 228/228 cam, and I got it before I planned on getting these upgrades. The car sounds great, and I was wondering if it's a good cam to compliment a procharger, along with the mods I have planned?
