    2001 Pontiac WS6 Trans Am

    What could this engine noise be???



    This is driving me crazy I've replaced and fixed a lot of various things but can't seem to narrow it down....Anybody else have this issue or know what it is

    Hmmm. I only hear the rattle right after the revs drop. Last noise I had like that was a stretched belt on a friend's Nissan that was allowing the tensioner to rattle against its internal stop.

    Other than what PAJeff said, I thought I heard a little piston slap.

    Do you have a good mechanic around? Might be cheaper to pay an inspection fee, and have a second good set of eyes and ears, than all of the therapy sessions of not finding out what it is.

    Same here. I would guess it is something within the belt system too. OP - have you checked to ensure all the pulleys are tight? If you take the belt off the tensioner, do all the pulleys spin freely?
