What is the best rearend gears for all round driving?

I have a 77 camaro with a hot engine and a 350 trans with a stall and 373 gears in the rear . The car is a blast to drive around town, but not to much on the highway at highway speeds. I was thinking about getting 342's or even 323's so that I can get away from the noise at highway speeds.I like the performance of the car ,but I hate that rearend noise. what do you guys think would be my best move? There is nothing wrong with the rearend I have had it rebuilt, no noise at low speeds.May be a 700r4 will HELP?

I vote for the OD trans. Best of both worlds that way.

I agree -- an OD trans would be the ticket. A bit pricier than changing out gears, but you then get the best of both worlds. A cheaper option would be to run a taller tire on the street. And... if you want to really get crazy then check these out: Gear Vendors under/overdrive auxiliary transmissions Hot Rods, GM 3-Speed Automatic Performance Car/Street Rod.

Yeah that's an option, but it is pricey at $2600. However, that way you do have more gears than just the OD.

I also agree with the gear vendors set up, my good friend has one on a 70 challenger(Jeff you know the car) it works great, he has a straight 3speed set up then with a push of a button he has a six speed. He was also using it at the track by going from first to first overdrive then to 2nd then to 2nd od then drive at the top end seemed to work ok

Hope you guys can make it to the track again next year. Not sure if you saw the post in the Train, but the Trans Am was going 12.4's on closing day.
