Not a problem with the grease. However, to shim the
ring and pinion, weld the axle tubes and install the
cross bracing, I am too old for that. I would rather
get someone who is up on things.

Yup, just what the dealers are well schooled to say. However, I ask you this.......how is it that the noise never developed on my torsen till 20k miles and it did it on a second and third unit as well. SO HOW CAN IT BE NORMAL WHEN IT WORKS QUIET FOR MANY, MANY MILES BEFORE THE NOISE DEVELOPS? GM BS!!!!

True. My Torsen unit had the "marbles" noise since day one. Never hurt a thing. And my guy doesn't work at a dealership. He owns F Body Central and has been rebuilding rears and building some of the fastest f bods around for years. 80/90 dino works fine. http://fbodycentral.com/html/main.html

Sure, the noise does not hurt anything. That is just fine
if the noise is not annoying to you. However, it was
annoying enough to me to put three different torsen
units in and finally went to Eaton. No noise! Blessed
silence, except for a slight hard turn squall that will go
away once I get the synthetic grease out.

BTW, my dealership comment was tung in cheek. I
    was not really serious.

Sam what did you do with the used units? You know they are worth quite a bit.

One was replaced by the dealer under warranty.
The other two I did sell on eBay. The Eaton unit that
I got I found on eBay and it was almost new.

Each one that I had was quiet till about 20k miles and
then it started the slow coast trump, trump. It annoyed
    me.

I just put Amsoil 75-90 severe gear in mine and i'm suprised how much it quieted the Torsen.I was using Amsoil 75-140,seems the torsen likes the lighter oil.

I agree Rivi...many drop in 75-140 just because everybody else does it. Notice on up the string I recommended 75-90 for another guy. Messing around with various FBodies around here I also notice how much quieter the 90W version is. I cannot tell you why....other than maybe the 90W gear lube gets into the tighter spots under load....but that is just a theory of mine....did you use the Amsoil Friction Modifier? If so how much?

Must be a load factor....in other words the oil isnt loading up in the pressure spots but is passing through or squeezing throuh the pressure loaded areas....IMHO

How much "F" modifier should I use?

Sarge - The Torco non-synthetic grease and F modifier has arrived. How much of the modifier should I use, the whole 4 oz bottle or what?
