Well this sucks, the Z28 is making some noise...

It sounds like an exhaust leak, tapping or ticking but there isn't any leak anywhere. The sound is coming from the driver side area. I opened the valve cover on that side to see if there is any valve/spring/rocker broken or loose. All is good. The car is running like it should, not throwing any codes, no stalling issues, oil pressure is great. So I'm baffled on this one.

It starts making the noise around 1.5K rpm and become more pronounce on 2K and goes faster (ticking or tapping). It doesn't get any louder though.

    WTF?!? Any ideas guys?

Does it sound like its going faster than the rise in rpms? I've seen a bad alternater make a tapping noise that would rise with rpms but would sound like it would increase more than the rise in rpms. Hope this sounds like what I mean. Should add that this was more pronounced when taking off or comming to a stop.

Get a stetho scope or long screw driver and start the car, pop the hood and have someone bring the car to 2k or manualy move the thorttle at the TB and try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from, it could be anything from a lifter to an exhaust leak...

I've also heard an exhaust leak sound, which turned out to be a plug wire not making good connection with the coil. No codes, ran normal. Just tapped like it was leaking at the exhaust.

I'll check it with stethoscope/screw driver method.

I checked the plugs and the wires already. They are all good, tight/secure.

I'll make a video of the noise and keep up with the update.

sounds like it may be a lifter if your sure there is no exhaust leak.

Here is a video of my car making that noise. I think if was a exhaust leak, it would become louder as I increase the rpm, correct? Well this one just becomes faster (the noise) as I increase the rpm.

I've checked the welds and the connections and they are all good.

Its hard to tell, seems like a valvetrain noise when you were recording from the top side and it sounded like an exhaust leak when you recorded from underneath. Tighten up all the header bolts??

Yeah, all the bolts are tighten. I took that header out, checked for any soot on the welds. Re install, re checked the bolts for any loose ones. They are all good on that department. Hell, even my exhaust guy is annoyed at me for coming back to his shop and asking him to recheck for leaks.

You could just drive hard until something really breaks, then you'll know for sure what wrong

What does it sound like when you just blip the throttle open and closed? Usually a rod will make a quick double knock. Valve train will just tick.

I'm not sure if your headers have the AIR ports in them. But if you check for an exhaust leak there. If you have them I'm assuming that you have the gaskets in them. There reason I'm saying that is because I had a similar situation on the drivers side and it turned out to be that. I hope this help and good luck.
