Angry weird rattle in back quarter.. driving me nuts

ever since i have had my TA it was had a BAD rattle at the idle RPM range. when im stopped at a red light or something like, the back passenger quater panel or B pillar will rattle loud. drives me nuts i let my gf drive it down the road and i could even hear it from outside the car. Its not my tag or my anntena bc i have taken both of them off and it still does the same thing. I have also taken my spare tire out and my jack. thank you ahead guys...

how about the exhaust pipe contacting the gas tank heat shield in the area where it goes over the axle? mine was vibrating at certain low rpm situations. sounded like a rattle sometimes.

Could also be hitting the spare tire well to, mine is doing that and I just happened to notice it one day while crawling around doing a small inspection.

I have a cutout, no antenna, nothing in the ass end. All new exhaust bushings.. mine still does it...cutout WILL make you ignore everything...

The heatshields on mine make a helleva rattle as well when my cutout is rarely capped.

check the heat shields in the back of the car and the panhard bar. The exhaust runs close to both.

if you can get it to do it idling, or have a friend playing with the throttle you can crawl under and use the special heat shield rattle finder/ repair tool like i did. [pry bar]

OK i go my friend to get up under my car and he said that it was the heat sheild also. so i droped the sheild down and stuffed welding fabric between it and the gas tank. Took it down the road and it still rattled just as bad. Its not my heat sheild. At least i ruled that out. WTF keep the ideas coming guys, thanks

not that that all things similar are the same, but my exhaust was hitting the heat shield, not the heat shield hitting the car! putting material behind the shield would have made it worse in my case. might be worth checking again.

yeah, just bend that sucker where it's the closest to your exhaust back there. Look right where the exhaust comes over the axle and passes by the panhard bar. That's where it's the closest I think. Look on your panhard for rub marks from the exhaust also. It's pretty tight right in that area.

Get some exhaust wrap and put it around the high point of the bend over the axle for about a foot both directions. I did it and my rattle went away.

i had a rattle back there once, and it turned out to be a loose sensor for the stock car alarm, it was dangling and banging against the quarter panel

thanks for that. i always thought when people ask for advice with tracking down a problem or something, when they find the cause or figure out a fix, they should come back and share it.
