it may have gains over the FAST in mid-range torque yes correct this is due to the air flow dynamics of a longer runner design however it will not flow to the FAST numbers at peak... if you're looking for an excellent DD car with good low end torque this intake may be what you're looking for however if you're into racing and getting good numbers the FAST will still have it beat...

Whether to choose an intake of this profile over a FAST depends on where you need the torque, weight of car, gearing, etc. It will actually produce a greater area under the curve and produce a useable power increase on an otherwise stock motor. There are a great many people who just slap a FAST on a bone stock engine and see absolutely nothing, that is if they're fortunate enough to get one that doesn't have internal leaks. Those lucky fellows see a drop in power. On an engine setup to flow high CFM at high RPM, a properly ported and reworked FAST is the better choice.

I have never heard of any "internal leaks" of any kind.

FAST is a two piece affair. If the pieces don't fit exactly, it leaks. Aftermarket guys clean up the fit and finish, and sometimes do some porting as well.
