wasting my money?
so registration time comes up and i have to get it smogged, well turns out it fails, the code that popped up was p0420 CAT-converter below threshold (bank 1), so im thinking O2 sensor, since my cats are working fine, drive around looking for some and some of the mechanics try to sell me a catalytic converter, and i dont know whether it is my cats or the O2 sensor.....anybody else ever had this problem?

Yea it hapens, one trick I read about is swapping the sensors around to see if the code follows. Swap it with the matching one on the passenger side. if the code moves tot hat side then you know.

Yes, it is the cat. Gm has a recall on the cats, and have been covering them under warrenty. my 01 WS6 did the same thing and so I took it in to my local dealer for my free cat. There are a few write ups on this topic with the recall number. I don't have the letter gm sent me with me. You should be able to call your dealer to see if your car qualifies under the recall.
