Warranty's done and have a grand for mods

The engine is pretty much stock. Only thing done under hood is a K&N air filter, MTI lid, Hotchkis Strut tower brace. Other than that Magnaflow cat-back exhaust and the rest is bone stock.

My question is this If you had about a thousand to put into the car, what would be the best bang for buck to do? I'm not trying to make it a strip monster just get the best hp increase for dollar spent.

    So far I've been told:
    1. get a cam
    2. port and/or descreen MAF
    3. Change to a cooler thermostat
    4. underdrive pulleys
    5. port or change to aftermarket throttle body but I don't intend on changing the intake so I've been told I won't notice any change.
    6. coolant bypass freemod
    7. headers and y-pipe

    Things I'm curious about:
    1. better rocker arm? if I changed it do I have to change other things as well? I am not a gear head or grease monkey so forgive me if I don't know these things

about the only thing on your list that would really make a bunch of sense to do IMO are the headers. You could maybe fit a couple others in there too like the UD pulley, free mods, t-stat, and/or pp tb. You already have an ls6 intake so you're fine in that dept. The cam needs the headers and a grand really won't cover both. Don't mess with your MAF.......ever. The stock rockers are just fine. I would probably do headers and a tune and call it a day.

ok with that answer..another question haha

I bought the SLP lt headers and y-pipea few years back. Didn't install it because my car is lowered and I read on here that there pipe scrapes really bad especially on lowered cars so rather than tearing it up I sold it all, got my money back and haven't messed with it since. So with it being so low what would be a good brand to go with? I remember one particular brand everyone at the time was saying to go with but that was a while ago

What kind of gain could I get ?

    Kooks or Pacesetters.

With a tune you could easily do 25 HP.

Free mods would help with that

Since your budget is a grand go with pacesetter lts along with ORY. Mine tuck up under the car REALLY nice, you should have no clearance issues. The free mods will help out also, then get the car tuned.

1000$ I'll tell you the best thing you can do for yourself

    Pacesetter LT's (ceramic coated)
    Pacesetter ORY
port&polish the TB (leave the maf alone)
    SFC
Catch Can (if you have bad oil consumption)
    seafoam the induction and fuel
    get a tune

that about covers the 1000$ you could do the UD pulley if you have money left over but at this point its not really worth it, I would place it last on the list even behind the catch can and seafoaming. T-stat not worth it at this point, I would guess a gain of about 20rwhp minimum from that alone, and a much stiffer car with better longevity.

Headers + y-pipe + tune + ported stock TB and subframe connectors and you should easily be knocking on the door of $1K. Once you have those "supporting" mods, you could really start to extract more power from a cam swap -- next on the mod list.

As some of the others stated -- don't touch the MAF screen and the stock thermostat is fine.

I would get gears, for not alot of money. The install will cost you about 350-500 bucks so you would be about 750.00 at the very worse with parts and labor. Its good to do it because any mod you put on after your gear swap will help you utilize that power in a more efficient way. With what you have left you can get an exhuast cut out, UD pulley, free mod TB bypass. Down the road once you save up more, no doubt i would go Pacesetter Lt's and ORY with the tune your gonna need the tune for the headers and also for the gears, correction of speedo. Either way GL with it and either headers or gears is a good choice just preference.
