    vibration after new brakes

whenever i reach about 45-50mph, the steering wheel begins to vibrate and shake
i only got my front brakes done, new rotors and brake pads
do i need an alignment after the brake job?
    thanks in advance

Alignment isn't necessary for pads/rotors - something else is going on. Was it doing it before bringing it in? If not bring it back. When my original GSC's started to wear they would shake a little around the same speed.

if it's only at that speed while driving and not braking, then check the balance the tires. if hte vibration only happens when you hit the brakes, then rotors are warped.

Just thought of something else - if you had directional tires on the car did they put them back on the right sides?

running directional tread tires backwards isn't going to cause a vibration. the directional tread pattern has to do with water evacuation.

i dont think they are directional
the wheels are on the same sides as before
as to warped rotors, i just got them changed
the vibration stays even at higher speeds but begins in the 45-50mph range
they were not doing this before they did the work
do u think something is loose?

Had mine done and they did not torque the wheels down right. Had them torqued right and it went away. Rick

Did you brake in the new pads and rotors?

If not you may have overheated and warped them. Happens on a regualr basis.

Your problem is not alignment related. With you just having a brake job, it's most likely one of two things. Either the balance of your tires are off which can happen when they pull your wheels off and allow your tires to bounce on the ground and cause a wheel weight to fall off, or they installed a set of cheap rotors that are not in the OEM balance specs. But I do agree you should double check your lug nut torque. With the car jacked up (safely), the torque should be 100-105 lbs. ft.

been a mechanic for 40 yrs, viberation at speed with no brake pressure is wheel balance or bent wheel not alignment!!!! just have the wheels computer balanced or bring it to wyoming and i will fix it for you.,

weird it started right after you did the brakes. maybe it was there before, just didn't notice until now. as wyoming t/a said, go get your tires balanced.

They might have knocked a wheel balance weight off when they pulled the wheel. Sounds like a wheel balance problem to me.
