    Angry Underhood Crickets

Anybody else having trouble with belts sounding like a box of crickets under the hood? I guess its because all of the rain we've had had here in ATL has created ALOT of moisture in the air? I just put a new tensioner on it and a new belt thinking one of the two would fix it but NO LUCK!
Any suggestion that will last? I was going to put some belt dressing on it from local autoparts store but it says right on container in big letters NOT FOR USE ON SERPENTINE BELTS! I was thinking maybe white lithium grease?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

mine was doing the same thing. it turned out to be the idler pulley under the ac compressor. $38 from gm parts direct. take your belt off and spin and wiggle all the pulleys by hand .

This is good to know as my car does the same thing between shifts. I had a feeling it was the pulley. I guess all LSx motors do this? With high mileage at least?

Don't put any dressing or grease on the belt otherwise it will be ruined.

I changed my upper tensioner and it turned out to be the lower one that was making noise....lol.

Changed that one and the noise ceased.

Another vote for the AC idler pulley. Mine sounds just like you describe.

Yeah 9 times out of 10 it's the AC tensioner not the upper tensioner.... I have the same problem...

Mine makes the same damn noise. Changed the main belt drive tensioner pully and that didn't fix it, although the bearing was considerably worn.

Listening closer, it sounds like its coming from down low by the A/C drive, I'll have to pull the belt and see which one is squeaking.

    Its the lower AC tensioner.

Yeah, I got a new billet type tensioner out of the deal though.

It probably is the A/C belt tensioner. I've replaced a few at work.
