    underdrive pulley. wat to expect?

I'm thinking about getting an underdrive pulley for my car to get a couple hp out of it. I've gotten a little used to it. I've been wondering wat kinda power gains should I expect with my current tune. And would it mess with my tune or am I fine just throwing the bugger on there? Finally I'm wondering which one I should get? I've been looking at either the slp one for like 180 for a harmonic balancer+pulley. Or an asp "racing" set which has crank and alternator pulleys for 220. Which is better? Which would gain me more? And does tune snafu?

You wont need a re-tune. More of a headache in my opinion. You wont pick up any Hp that you will feel.
If its a DD i wouldnt mess with the Alt pulley although its your call, also ensure you pick up a new Balancer bolt if you decide to swap it.

you would gain anywhere from 3-5 hp depending on other mods.

Only 3-5? Their site claims 13 rwhp on stock set up? Is it worth getting the pulley or just forget about it?

Forget about it, spend the money elsewhere.

So its not worth the hp it "frees" up? Wat would be wrong with messing with the alt pulley on a dd?

depends on what your doing with the car, in your case your car is a dd and you want to leave it streetable and not affect gas mileage by adding things such as a cam but still want to add a few hp here and there then IMO its worth it.

Well I'm going to do a cam... eventually. Right now I was thinking about doing a 9" with 3.73's and a stall. Maybe something around 3000. I get 10 mpgs as it is anyway. Sould the pulley be kinda worth it in the long run for future upgrade + mpgs?

I was looking to get the most out of my stock block so I purchased one on the cheap. It was used got it for $115 shipped. SLP unit, netted about 7hp on the dyno. Only thing I didn't like was since it is smaller than stock it spins the power stearing slower and stearing is slightly sluggish, other than that it's fine.

I'll be selling mine once I go to a larger cube motor.

I had one on mine for a while. It didn't do squat for ET or MPH on my car.

What it did do, is cause the voltage to drop while idling around, especially at night with lights, heater, etc... running. I could live with that...

What I couldn't live with is how I noticed the car running warmer when idling around as well. To the point where the fans would continuously run at idle, especially with the A/C on. It was just turning the water pump too slow. As soon as I gave the car some gas and held rpms at around 1500,,,the temps would drop like a rock and the fans would kick off. I run a 170 stat with the fans set to shut off at 185,,,and it wouldn't even cool it that far when idling
That was a problem while just living in Ohio where summer temps hit the 90's. I knew moving to AZ would be even worse, so the pulley came off.

Ya, it ran continuously without the A/C though. And temps got worse with the A/C on. (as long as the car was idling)
