    Uh oh?

    Hm i asked around locally and everyone said it should be okay to run 85 octane..i been running that on my stock ls1..i think thats bad? The highest it goes is 91 here in colorado..Am i screwed in any way? Should i toss some chevron in there? Owned car for 3-4 months 3-4k miles...DD

    it wont damage anything just not perform the way it should switch to 91 for the future

    Man i dont even have the owners manual for this car..im emberassed lol..thanks dude..btw i just filled it up with 85..can i toss some octane booster AND chevron cleaner? bad to mix both? Thanks mate

    dont even worry about it, youve already drove 3-4k miles with 85, one more tank wont do anything. just in the future use 91

    I was gonna put some fuel system cleaner anyways, was curious as im going to auto zone for oil and stuff, would it be bad to mix octane booster and chevron? Just curiosity now =)

    it has a knock sensor,the quality of the gas is a big factor.you buy V8s to buy hi-octane.

    Knock sensor as in...that the knock i here when its cold? figured it was the piston slap or whatever ls1's deal with. <---novice xD

    If I recall, the PCM has both high and low octane tables. As stated, it would hurt your performance running low octane fuel as the timing will not be as aggressive. The PCM is simply trying to avoid spark knock which can damage the engine.

    As far as fuel system cleaners go, Chevron Techron is probably your best and safest alternative. When's the last time the fuel filter was replaced? It's an easy maintenance item that is often overlooked.

    Good man.

    Straight from the '02 Factory Service Manual:

    If you have the 5.7L V8 engine (VIN Code G), use premium unleaded gasoline rated at 91 octane or higher for best performance. You may use middle grade or regular unleaded gasolines, but your vehicle may not accelerate as well.
