    tuning??? maybe???

I have a 98 TA , and sometimes more often than not when i hit the brake the car down shifts, and runs higher rpms. witch is killing me gas wise... or when im driving around 35 it should be in over drive correct. the car is a auto tran. i took the car to a friend a few weeks ago because the car would want to just stall, sounded like it just wanted to die, he hooked it up to his lap top, and now its doing this. should i get it dynoed.

Yes you should be able to fix shift point issues with a tune. What did your freind do to the car when he hooked his laptop up to it? You do not really need a dyno to fix your shifting issues but if it hasnt been dyno tunes since the cam then it is a good idea. Find a reputable tuner to do it though. I used just a local tuner back in texas and my car was all fucked up til I got a better tuner in FL and now it drives just like stock again.

Are you sure it’s down shifting and not the torque converter unlocking. At speeds of 35mph or less the converter well remain unlocked. To get the best tune you well need it to be dyno tuned by a shop that has done it before. When braking this also could be the TC unlocking and not down shifting. It sounds like the car still needs some more tuning, or the TC is having trouble locking up. Also did they delete the torque management from the ECU? With a higher stall converter deleting torque management is highly recommended. For the higher RPMs this is a must when you install an after market cam. My SS idles at 975RPM.

when he hooked it up the car was having trouble staying at a high enough rpm's , the car kept wanting to act like it was going to cut off. like when you hit the gas real hard or where on a big hill. it would just choke its self down. i haven't been having that problem any more ..
