    Trunk release mod

Well i did this mod not expecting much, you just put another spring like a piggy back over your own thats a bit stiffer. WOW, the trunk just fly's open, its a huge difference. I got tired of pressing the button on my remote several times and then eventually putting pressure on the trunk myself to get it open. Well worth the 4 bucks i paid for the spring. Got the info from Universityinstall.com

Where did you get the spring? I couldn't ever find the right one. I just didn't look in the right place.

I got it from Lowes but home depot should have it as well. I dont know what is in your area but those are the two major stores in our area that carry them. I just printed out the pick from Universityinstall and took it to the store and showed them what im looking for. They guided me in the right direction. Its 2 springs in one bag, its well worth the mod. If i can fix a problem like that with just 4 bucks i wouldve done this mod a long time ago, too bad i just found out about it.

I sometimes get aggravated by that as well. Sometimes it pops right open, others it takes 3 to 4 clicks...

I did that modification ages ago and it really works.

Just did the mod this afternoon. What a difference! However, rather than piggybacking the existing spring, I installed an adjacent spring with a bit less tension. Looks like this:

My hatch does not fly up, just pops now so you can get your hand under it to raise it. Before, it would take 2-3 pushes of the button just to be able to get a finger under the lip.

I never liked the piggy back spring idea. So I removed the latch and spring.
Welded up the spring hole in the lever and redrilled it higher up so as to create more spring tension with the original spring.

That and some adjusting and it's worked like a charm ever since. The other part of most people's problems though is that the stuts are what needs to be replaced more than anything. Technically like most cars the lid should raise itself when popped. But the lid is heavy,,,and the struts aren't cheap either.
