Trip Odo Resets Every Time I Start the Car
Has anyone had these two things happen? I had to replace the battery a week or so ago and now every time I start the car the trip odometer resets itself, also all of the gauges go to their far pegs and return to zero then give the actual readings. Is this normal about the Gauges???

I might be wrong, but I think it's normal for the gauges to do the full sweep in self-test/startup. As for the odometer reset, I do not know. Others will chime in to offer further assistance.

Upon further research Pontiac TSB#990849009 it is caused by a volatile chip in the inst cluster. It happens at very low ambient temps and possible low voltage. According to the TSB replacement of the cluster is the fix. I think I will live with it.

How strange that mine is resetting every time too and then I find your post. How much would it cost to replace the cluster?

I had that problem too, but when I changed the battery it stopped. It usually happens to 1999 models.
