    traction control

I am looking at buying another trans am. its a 6spd but it dont have traction control. does that mean that it is just off all the time or will it do that stupid thing where it will push the gas pedal out if the tires lose traction. does anyone know how hard it would be to put one in and all the computer work you have to do.

First thing I do in our car is shut the traction control off.

It would be a pain to install on a non-TCS car. You need reluctor rings on the axles (non-TCS car has a reluctor on the ring gear for the ABS), sensors, wiring, a controller and such. Not worth it imo.

my old car had it on there and i called it my happy button. every time i hoped in there, i would shut it off to.
does that just mean the the traction is off all the time w/out the button.

Easiest way to tell if the car is equipped with traction control is to look at the rear wheel backing plates. You will see a sender unit mounted on the inside of the plate with a wire harness connected to it. On non-TCS cars, there will be a sender bolted to the top of the differential in line with the approximate location of the ring gear. The lack of a switch is not necessarily dispositive as a prior owner could have disabled the system, replaced the switch plate, etc...

Other method would be to look at the RPO codes on the edge of the driver door. You would have to look up the code in our General Help sticky though as I do not know it.

Dont let the traction control keep you from buying that car. If you don't use it anyway your out nothing if it doesn't have it.
Even if the switch is gone it can be disabled with a little re-wiring.

Once you get it, we can figure out what you have with a few pics and some searching on the car.
I'm sure that between myself and the rest of the folks on here we can help you out without too much hassle.
    Good luck on the purchase.
