There is no speed limiter on the M6 cars. That's just in the automatic cars.

It is the law to be governed based on the tire speed rating, change your tires you can change your governor.

    My 97 M6 LT1 had no governor

I took a road trip last year and in the desert I hit 158. Speedo was pegged, RPMS were just over 3000 in six and still pulling, obviously once I shifted into 6 the pulling was slow going probably would have taken another 5-10 miles to peg it, No govenor kicked in and the speed was from my laptop GPS. At slower speeds my speedo and the GPS were dead nuts with eachother. That was dead stock except for an aluminum flywheel. I would say a speed of 165-175 is probably going to be the max with a stock setup.

I know with my LT1 it was set by the type of tires. 115mph V rated, 155mph Z rated. I have no idea for LS1.

I have read that the Formula (no T-tops) is the fastest for top end, and the T/A is the slowest.(by around 5mph difference.) This is mainly due to the oversized rear spoiler causing extra down force, and the fog lights.

My A4 car has 3.42s. That means at 5400rpms I would going 172mph in OD (.70 to 1)
    An M6 car with 3.42s in 5th at 5400rpms(.74 to 1) would be 162mph.
    An M6 car with 3.42s in 6th at 5400rpms(.50 to 1) would be 240mph.

An m6 car with 3.42s at 172mph in 6th would be turning 3900rpms, at that rpm you are only turning around 235rwhp while my A4 would be putting out over 300rwhp.

With the stock hp of an F-body You are going to hit a brick wall at around 170mph. At that point you need to be at peak hp to push into the mid 170s. I think a A4 with 3.23s would be the best for top end.

The Ram Air hood causes a heck of a lot of drag at really high speeds too

ls1 edit or hptuners software can get rid of the limiter

Testing out the top end of any of our cars on public roads is just foolish... I'd not recommend it. Find a track somewhere or something along those lines. Don't kill yourself or others for a quick thrill.
