I would say no unless you live in an extremely cold climate the designers probably did it for emissions mine is bypassed and has not caused any problems

Dunno, but the process is pretty simple to explain. Coolant runs through the throttle body, heating up the air that passes through. The bypass routes the coolant around the TB, helping to keep the air cooler. It seems that other than causing possible problems in a real cold climate, the process should be harmless, as there must be some small risk of the TB freezing up???

Anyone know if there's a kit which has like IDK a valve or something that would let you switch it back and forth, even though I'm in Fla. it has been known to drop in the teens in the winter, seems like something that would be pretty easy even if there wasn't a kit. And mine is a DD.
I think I just invented something...oh yea!!!
Also, anyone know at what temp, the air would actually have to be warmed?
Are we talking low teens...anything below freezing (32 degrees) or subzero or below zero or what?

I start it thru the winter but it never touches rain or snow/salt on roads. I have heard other people in cold climates also never have issues so I don't think the Florida chill will ever get close to up north.

just go to the local hardware shop and grab some 3/8 rubber hose and a 3/8 brass double sided coupler with barbs on both sides, some hose clamps and call it a day, this is not a tricky thing, i did it with stuff just laying around in my garage,
and there is no adverse effects cold hot whatever its a smog thing not a driveability thing,
ive had it done on my 99ss for over a year and am going to do it on my 02ss also

Ah so it doesn't affect driveability cold or hot.
Wonder how it effects emissions then...like why do they do it in the first place?
So what kinda gains we lookin at?...IDK...say 50 to 75 horsies?
I read somwhere the cooler the air, the more horsepower, so couldn't I just route an air conditioning duct to the Ram Air, naaah scratch that, can't race with the A/C on robs power all over again, I'll just move to Canada...oh but then I can't drive it everyday...I need to find a cold place where it doesn't snow...don't mind me, just thinkin' out loud here, tryin not to hurt myself.

lol,, well thinking about it the only reason they did this waas for smog purpose, really i dont knolw why they did this,
and the gain may be 3to 5 horses on a really hot engine, nothing when the engine is cold well cause the coolant is cold.
as for the ac routing to the intake lol, good idea but... when you floor the accelerator the a'c clutch releases, so you dont blow up the compressor racing.
as for cold climate thats good for engines the beach is good, but for the paint the desert is good, so you pick good looks or cold air!

Northern, Jacksonville area. Just do it you will be fine, the only ill side affects I have ever heard is the tb shaft could freeze which I have never actually heard anyone on any of the ls1 board say it has happened to them. Even if it did it would only take a few minutes of the car running to warm it up. My car sits outside year round and I drive it daily i'm usually out the door at 7am so its plenty cold in the winter when I start it up.
