My '02 WS6 runs around 205-210 regardless of outside temp.

Same here. Don't quote me on it, but I've seen threads that say the gauge reads higher than actual.

It is a dummy gauge. 1998 was the only year to get a temp gauge that was actually accurate. Basically if your car is anywhere from 180-210 degrees it's gonna continue to read just a hair under 210...even if you get a 160* thermostat.

The temp gauge should not really go above that 210* mark, you may have a problem with the cooling system.

My '98 runs at about 180-185. If this is fairly accurate, does my car already have a 180* stat? What's stock?

The gauge isn't accurate at all....hook up a data monitor(predator, hptuners..etc) and you'll see the real temp. Before I adjusted the fans on/off temp...the stock setting was extremely high at 225+ on temp fow low speed....high speed on temp was in the 230's. I still have the stock 195* stat in and set the on/off to low 207/199 and high at 217/208....something like that. You want to set the temps so the fans aren't always on and cycle on/off.

The gauge is always under the 210 mark now...and on the freeway the mototr is always at the stat temp of 195

My '01 T/A is always at 210 (or a shade under) whether in traffic or freezing temps. It just doesn't matter.

Only time my car ever got above 210 was with stock tstat and fan settings, just after installing FTRA, in 95* outside temps, at a long stoplight - went right back down once I started moving.

You're correct. I hear-tell the 98 was the last year of the "real" temperature gauge. I have the 160 t-stat and a manual fan switch. The gauge reads 210 no matter what.

    GREAT avatar ! ! !
