Taming the Loudmouth 1
I'm running a 98 WS6 with Cam, LT's, 4.56 gears, 6 speed, and loudmouth 1 catback. I have a distinctive resonating zone in the RPM range from 2.5K - 3.25K rpm's that is obnoxious. As the revs pass through this range, the db's increase 10 fold from before and while in that rev range the exhaust note has an obnoxious cackling characteristic.
What is generating the resonance and how can I eliminate it or tone it down?
Does anyone else have an aftermarket cat back and a resonating zone in the rpm range? Have you done anything to eliminate the resonance?

Are you running cats? If not, there is your answer. Catalytic converters act as resonators as well as air purifiers. You could get an LM2 resonator and swap that in for the LM1 you have now. You could try a pair of resonated exhaust tips from any of our sponsors or eBay. Let us know if you need anything else.

kind of common in that rpm range, my best advice to you is find yourself a magnaflow catback, it will tone it down a bit and pretty much guaranteed to sound badass with the cam and LTs

Love the sound of my cam with the magnaflow, almost just as much as the open cut out

i had the loud mouth when i got mine, couldnt handle all that racket, the only time it sounded good was at 6 or 6500, swapped it out for a flowmaster cat back and that sucks too, its going very very soon and i will be getting a magnaflow, i had one on my 95 with LT's and it sounded awesome.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I keep hearing magnaflow--must be something to it. My take at the moment is to switch out the LM1 for the LM2 resonator. And if the LM2 offers no solution, then I'll try to find the resonator tips mentioned above.
Is anyone running the electric cutouts and how do you like them?

I have an electric cut out, makes it so much eaiser. Before I would have to jack the car up to take the plate off. Now I can open and close it anytime I want to.

Member PAJeff02 has one in his WS6. I heard it and it sounds VERY nice. :yep:
Also...with the Magnaflow, you will have a nice, mellow cybernetic growl. Sounds so evil.Last edited by cammed goat; 08-29-2011 at 05:32 AM.
