I use regular Castrol in the motor, Valvoline in the rear (Auburn) and Mobil 1 in the Tranny. I used to use Mobil 1 in the motor but when I found out it wasn't full synthetic anymore with a little advice from Sarge I switched to regular Castrol 10w30 and at 130,000 miles it's still running great and using less than a 1/4 quart in 3000 miles. I use regular gear oil in the rear because Aubuns will slip with synthetic. As for the tranny I changed to Mobil 1 before I saw advise not to do so. That was over 30,000 miles ago and now the tranny which I thought may have had a bad syncro 30,000 miles ago shifts as smooth as butter.

+1. I just picked up a 5qt jug for like $19.97 at WallyWorld. Then I had to buy a single qt to make the 5.5qt. They wanted $5.38 a quart. Which is about $26 for 5qt. So, make sure you buy the jug, then buy one single, its a lot cheaper.

The fact of the matter is, if you are using your vehicle as a daily driver, going to the track now and then, as long as you are changing your oil @ regualar intervals, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DAMAGE YOUR ENGINE.

There is too much BS about which oil is better, years ago YES maybe a reasonable debate, however with refining technology what it is today, any SL/SM oil will do the job.

I have been using RP 10W/30 on my stock motor 2001 Z28, and I have no issues, or consumption to talk about.

I respect "Sarge" and he can split hairs about oil down to microns, unless you are running a highly modified setup, IT DOES NOT MATTER.

I always thought Pennzoil sucked as bad as Fram. That opinion is based on nothing except what I've heard.

ive got Royal purple in mine and i like it alot, on an old horsepower TV episode on Spike,
they replaced the oil, rear end fluid, and trans fluid with royal purple, and it showed a 8 hp increase and 6ft/lb increase on their dyno check out their site they have multiple tests and summarys that show it

or click here for a video of them testing it in an LS1 http://www.royalpurple.com/rp-videos.html click the hp torque link then the first video on the page
