    Stupid VATS! Easy question

Vats have finally possible taken a crap on me. put key in, security light flashes and no start. Same with other key. Took key and put it to a digital multi meter on the 20k setting and got 0.523 . so my question is what resistor do I get? radio shack wasnt any help when I told them this. do I just get a half watt resistor or what? any help would be great. Thanks

Yes I have seen this thread. My question is what resistors do I get to achieve this 0.523?

Do I just need a 523 ohm resistor at like a half watt? Or out of a series make 523?

http://www.vatskey.com/vats/lostvatskey.htm Look there, but what you need is a 500 ohm resistor. There is a +or- 15% tolarance.

glad you got it figured out......you want to get as close to that 523 as possible due to the variance as listed above. Also if you use gold band resistors your variance is only 5% instead of 10% with the silver.

I always recommend a half watt....you can get away with the quarter if your up the chart a ways but down low it's getting close. I explained it in the other thread which I'll quote here. What I don't know is if that vats module is operating on 12v so this could be wrong but it's on the safe side. I'm kinda assuming here that the module is operating on 12v.

ohms law is P=I*V which is power=current*voltage
you have to solve for current first which is I=V/R
lowest pellet resistance possible is 386ohms
    12v/386ohms=.03amps
.03amps*12volts=.37 watts so P=.37 which is a little over a quarter watt.

Ya I made a half watt 526 ohm resistor with a 5% tolerance and works great
