    Exclamation stuck in park

I got up this morning to go to work, and my TA wouldn't shift out of park. I have a remote start so I thought it might have something to do with the key-chip bypass. I turned it off and waited about half an hour and tried it again with the key... still stuck in park. It hasn't done this before, but I just got the car last Saturday. My old firebird never did this either, so I don't know what's going on. The brake lights come on when I hit the brake, so I don't think it's the switch. Any ideas? It's an A4 btw.

The park lock solenoid is probably bad.

Yes, this is a different "switch" than the one for the lights. It is a safety feature so kids don't drive off by just moving the shifter without a foot hard on the brake.

oh, i assumed they used the same switch on the brake for the brake lights and unlocking the shifter... thanks for clearing that up.

The solenoid was so gunked up with coke syrup it wouldn't move. It looks like the previous owner dumped a whole 2 liter down there

I swapped it out with the shiny clean one from my old firebird, and cleaned everything else and it's working fine now.

    Thanks to all who replied.
