    Stuck Oil Fill Cap

Have any of you had any trouble getting your oil fill cap off when the engine is hot? Drove to the store in my 2000 Z28 to get a quart, came back to fill it and can't get the cap to completely come off. I have to really force it to get the few turns.

I would be very careful that you do not break the fill neck off from the rocker cover. Maybe clean everything up real good and give it a light coat of Vaseline, white lithium grease, or some other benign lubricant that will stay in place. Just be careful as this will become a dirt magnet so you will need to be cautious removing it next time so as not to drop gunk into your engine.

Thank you for the reply. I noticed the fill neck torquing. so just screwed the cap back in and will try the lubricant. I just can't figure out how it got stuck this way.

The o-ring on the cap is dry. When you get it off, lube it up like Jeff said. You could even try some engine oil on it in addition to Jeff's suggestions.

It will only turn about and inch and then stops. I'll try to get some lubricant or oil into the space between the cap and fill neck and see if that works.

Mine will only turn so far then you have to pull out. It does not unthread all the way out.

look at the filler neck and make sure is not not dirty also. I replaced my cap and I never have this issue.
