I'm not sure the gas is the issue or not but I have the car for 5 years visiting these different gas stations and the knocking sound has been there always. I don't believe it will make a difference.

Yeah I seen the water in the tanks like you describe it. There is no way to be certain of which station is safe.

Have you used any fuel system cleaner like Techron, Lucas or Sea Foam?

I used seafoam once at 80k thru the brake line and I put seafoam or lucas in the gas tank every 5k when I do my oil change. I use Mobil one extended performance 10w30 with the good fram filter. I believe is the extended guard.

Okay. When did you install the catch can and upgrade the intake manifold? I ask as to see if you may have residual oil from the factory setup.

Just for informational purposes only, all of the gas in Florida comes through the Port of Tampa as either unleaded (87) or superunleaded (93). No matter what station's gas you buy. The only differences between them is what additives are put into the tanker trucks that deliver to the stations.

good to know. I really just trying to figure out for years this knocking sound under acceleration and honestly I gave up. I saw the OP asked the question about gasoline and I was curious to ask.

If you have heavy carbon buildup you can experience detonation even with higher octane fuels. A scan tool would tell you if the PCM is seeing knock and pulling timing.
