My life is a- Ben Stiller movie.
so do any M6's actually get 27 mpg?
get your thinking caps on...
i can get about 289 hwy miles on almost a tank [i used to road trip from cincy to pittsburgh, it was 289 miles and i arrived with 1/8 a tank left] that is 289/14= 20.6 mpg...
But i did a few calulations:
GM says, fuel capcity x expected mpg [16.8 x 27]= 432 miles
my rate, fuel used x expected mpg [14x27]=378miles
difference, expected distance – true distance [378–289]= 89miles
loss, expected dist ÷ difference [378÷89]=4.25 gallons
So where is my 4.25 gallons going!?!?! on ramps and merging can't be doing that
ok, wait, now as i think, i am usually going 85 mph...ok, so if i went 75 than I would only consume 12.35 gallons...
289/12.35= 23.4mpg AH HA!!! so i should slow my ass down and save about $9.00 @ the pumps for doing so!

Black- 2000 SS
I did the same thing
when i first bought my car i drove it 405 miles on one tank at 70 mph. when i filled it up i calculated that it was 26.752 mpg. i have only gotten that one other time when i drove to kansas city and i was only going about 65-70 mph and i got another high 26 mpg. just driving to and from work and out for drives at night i get 20 mpg. anywho i have to drive to have fun and if i am worring about gas millage then i am not driving to enjoy it. so i say screw gas mileage and have fun.
just a side note i did the exact same calculations that you did. kinda funny seeing someone else do the same thing.

I was cammed and got 27.5 MPG on the highway.
I did the simple math though. Total miles devided by total gallons.

I've seen 32 MPG in my 00 T/A. That's by being really stingy on the gas though and going about 75 on the Jersey Turnpike.

Yesterday did a little trip down the highway, about 20 miles. I've got an OBDII monitor on the dash-it reads out gas mileage in a couple different ways. This time I did something different,I reset the "current" reading after I had already accelerated up to 68 mph and set the cruise control. It averaged about 33-34 mpg, there was a headwind gusting that was dragging it down slightly. My car is a 6 speed BTW. But then after that I got into the swing of things and stopped trying for the best mileage and started having some fun. Without going into the details,I was exercising my left foot a bit and the mileage dropped to around 28 or so. It seems to be that the on ramps and traffic are what kills my mileage,as well as the fact that I drive in a "spirited manner" most of the time. But it's nice to know that the car is capable of good gas mileage when I need it to.

I usually get 30-32 mpg on trips on the interstate in 6th gear with the cruise control set at about 79-80 mph. This includes stops along the way with the off ramps and on ramps and the short drives (usually less than a mile) away from the interstate to get fuel, food or whatever.

I average around 24 except those tanks i go to the track. I think my best tank to date is about 380 miles not to bad.

in my A4 (stock) ive gotten really messed up mileage. Right after I got my car repaired a month after having it (alternator), I was getting 9.5 MPG, that is until I realized those fuckers never reconnected my intake back to the throttle body. When I was living in NJ i was getting about 180-190 miles which was around 15 MPG. The best I've gotten was strictly on the highway @ 80 MPH at about 220 miles for the tank.
After a 3000 mile long trip to CA, seafoam before, new fuel filter, K&N FIPK (also found out my MAF was on backwards), and Jasper Class 1 Trans, my last fill-up was at 260 miles (didn't check my mpg)...and thats me commuting back and fourth from school.
My advice, if your reading this and are getting 15 MPG something is wrong. Check your intake, fuel injectors, and swap out your fuel filter. Especially now that gas is 3.21 for premium around here.

I probably only get 20-22 MPG on the highway now with my stock geared M6.

that doesn't sound bad. I know a kid with a 6-speed SS that gets 10-12 MPG and doesn't know what's wrong, although he drives like the biggest maniac I know.
