Smoke from the oil drain plug??

My daughtor's car (2001 Plymouth Neon) has a low oil lpressure light at low RPMs. I decided to add a heavier weight oil this weekend to see if that would make it last at least a little longer. When I was draining the oil, I noticed that white smoke was coming out of the drain plug hole. The engine was cold - it hadn't been started in a day, and all I did was start it and drive it up on ramps. Any ideas on what would cause that?

Is that caused by bad rings? It's sounding like this engine needs a rebuild.

I don't think it would have smoke coming out a day after it had been shut off. Any blowby should have dissipated in that time frame. A quick compression check and cylinder leak down will let you know what's going on.

Ring packs are probably frozen allowing blow by.
Plugged PCV and/or carbon/varnish build up around the ring packs are the two normal suspects.
I would AutoRX it and make damn sure her PCV is fully operational.

Check the PCV and make sure it is fully operational. Crankcase pressure must be relieved somewhere or the rings will not seal properly.
