Smog check failed
I've only done suspension work to my car and I took my car for a smog check and it failed. It came with System too lean on Bank 1 and 2. So I took it to the dealership and they said it's the Fuel Pump and it's low on pressure. They want to charge me like $1400 to fix the Fuel Pump assembly. Oh the punch is that "it should stop that error. They're not even sure. What's a good approach to fix this problem? Thanx

Check the fuel pressure yourself....just go to autozone and you can rent the guage, usually for free if you use it in the parking lot. Check it with key in run position...I think GM calls for the psi to be between 55-60 and it should hold the pressure for about 10 minutes. Also do a search on fuel pump....you can put a new one in yourself pretty easily and a lot faster using a access panel.
System lean on both banks can also be sensor related....clean the MAF with electrical cleaner and check the filaments for any obvious damage.

My question is, why would low fuel pressure cause more smog? We dont have emissons and that stuff in my county yet but they have to check for cats, just to make sure they are on. You have a few options.
1-Do what they said and get raped.
2-If it really is the problem, change it yourself and save $1300.
3-Find someone that will pass it for you.
4-Pay the guy off.

P0171 and P0174 codes? Could also be a vacuum leak, PCV problem, ran out of gas... If they diagnosed the pump correctly the access panel route is cheaper than dropping the tank, I know two people that had it done at a local shop here in Jax for bad sending units.

Change the fuel filter first. LS1's run at 4 bar, or 58 psi. It's possible for a bad filter to overload the pump. You might also want to check the injectors, but if it's from both banks one would assume a pressure issue either caused by bad filter, or weak pump. Does it sing to you?
