    Angry SLP lid is Broke

    http://www.ls1.com/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif
Angry Just got the thing and was trying to install the MAF, I heated it, used silicone lube and it was still a very tight fit then it cracks from the edge of the coller going back 3". So I'm done... I'll just throw my K&N in and be done with it..

    Anyone else have this issue?

Why did you heat it up? It is indeed a tight fit but ya just got to use a little lube and just play the wiggle/slide and turn game until it mates up. Try giving slp a call and letting them know the situation and maybe they will replace it.

on a positive note Hank from SLP said he would take care of it and send me a new one...

your supposed to heat it up at the neck where the MAF installs...supposedly it helps it expand so you can install the MAF for a tighter fit when it cools...From what I'm reading some people have to do it some don't...Which tells me maybe the necks are not all the exact same diameter coming from the factory. No matter what i did with the one i got it would not go on.

everyone has this problem because slp wants you to buy the entire slp intake system. when you use their maf and flopac theres this extra connedcting piece that goes from the lid to the maf

The SLP lid is complete crap like most of their stuff. I owned one for a few months and the thing would never seal correctly. I could stick my pinky finger underneath the back side of it and touch the filter.

none of the aftermarket lids will fit like the factory, the SLP lid comes the closest

I got the entire flowpac,,,,no extra piece for the MAF with my kit. Shucks there wouldn't be any room for it anyway on mine.

My lid went on fine, I didn't heat anything. Snug fit on the MAF but thats the way you want it. Nice fit around the filter, overall it's okay. No problems here at all.

Had the same problem with it cracking and bad fit. They did send me a new one from SLP and I got the SLP MAF to go with it and now it fits. The older lids had a different injection molding process and fit better to stock MAF. I also got the air bellow and had to hack into my radiator shroud to get it all to fit. What a nightmare! Buy a used lid on e-bay unless you get the SLP MAF. That way at least you know it fit! There is no way in hell I could fit the lid even after heating it and putting the stock MAF in freezer to shrink. I have a new SLP lid and stock MAF right in front of me as I type this. The only way I could make it work is to use a dremmel to shave down the lid. I have to admit I do like the setup now that I know how to install it and appreciate SLP replacing the lid. If I could do it over I would just get a used lid and although the bellow was a pain and cost way too much it is much better than stock IMO.

I have the SLP driveshaft loop. As simple as it is, it's a great piece. Love my Firehawk rims too.

Just as there is a need for a driver mod in some situations, maybe you just need an installer mod......................
